Carlos Botelho

Ecotravel & Tours / Brazil – The Carlos Botelho State Park is an integral protection conservation unit of the Atlantic Rainforest South-East Reserves World Heritage Site and Mata Atlântica Biosphere Reserve in the State of São Paulo. It is located in the upper part of the Paranapiacaba mountain range, 200 km southwest of the capital (see map).

More than 220 bird species have been registered here, among others significant populations of jacutinga (Pipile jacutinga) a bird that lives mainly from the fruit of the juçara palm tree (Euterpe edulis). Carlos Botelho also protects the endemic spider monkey (Brachyteles arachnoides) or muriqui, the largest primate in the Americas.

From a total population of 1.200 species living in Brazil, approximately 600 to 800 can be found within the border of the park. This and other endangered species as the Jaguar (Panthera Onça) are evidence of the high degree of conservation of this conservation unit – Travel to Brazil / Tours.
