Due to different soil and climate conditions, species and species distribution change with different altitudes (Even at a constant altitude, vegetation changes according to stratums).
Therefore, the tropical and seasonal rainforest ecosystems of the Mata Atlântica can be divided into finer subunits, so-called altitudinal zones (see also IBGE):
