In order to protect biological and social - cultural diversity, Brazil has established an extense network of protected areas which actually covers more than 2 million sqkm (about 25% of the national territory) and is divided almost equally between protected natural areas or conservation units (unidades de conservação) and indigenous land (terras indígenas) – Eco Adventure Tours / Brazil.
